The mechanics of moving off an AI assistant you already use.

You have already decided. That part is over.

What is left is the work the decision created: months of conversations sitting in an account you are about to stop paying for, a set of custom instructions you tuned over a year and never wrote down anywhere else, four or five prompts you use every week, and a renewal date you are not certain about.

This site is about that work, and only that work. It does not help you choose an assistant — that question is genuinely a different one, and it has already been answered somewhere else. Here the destination is treated as settled and the job is to get there without losing anything.

The single thing worth knowing before you start: an export is an archive, not a transfer. You can take your conversations with you as readable files. You cannot hand them to a new assistant and continue where you left off. No product can do that, and planning as though one can is how people end up cancelling an account while their history was the only copy.

So the order of operations matters more than the choices. Export first. Verify the export opens. Rebuild the things that have no equivalent, as plain text you keep this time. Run both side by side against your own real work for as long as it takes to trust the new one. Cancel last.

Everything on this site is one step in that sequence, written so it stays true when the interfaces change — which they will, and sooner than you expect.
