About The Switch

The Switch covers one narrow subject: the mechanical work of moving from one AI assistant to another once you have already decided to move.

What this site does not do

It does not tell you which assistant to use. There is no ranking here, no comparison table, no “best for coding” post, and no opinion about whether your destination is a good choice. That question is a real one and it is answered elsewhere; this site starts one step later, at the point where the answer is already yours.

Why there are no menu paths here

You will not find “go to Settings, then Data Controls, then Export” on this site, for any product.

Interfaces change every few weeks. A migration guide written against a specific menu becomes confidently wrong very quickly, and a confidently wrong instruction is worse than none — it sends someone looking for a button that no longer exists and leaves them assuming the feature is gone.

So posts here describe what to look for rather than where it currently is: the category of setting, the shape of the thing you are trying to find, and what the result should look like when you have found it. That stays true. The specific click path is something you verify in the product, and only the product can tell you.

For the same reason there are no prices, plan names, storage limits, retention windows or processing times stated as fact anywhere on this site.

What the site assumes about you

That you are competent but not especially technical, that you have accumulated more in your account than you realise, and that your main concern is not losing it. That is the whole audience.

The one claim worth repeating

An export produces files. Files are an archive you can read, search and keep. They are not conversation state, and no assistant can be handed another’s history and resume it.

Most of the avoidable damage in a switch comes from not believing that sentence until after the account is closed.

Not a substitute for checking

Nothing here is advice about your specific account, and no post can see what your provider currently offers or what your billing terms say. Where a step is irreversible, this site says so — but the verification is yours to do, in the product, before you do the irreversible thing.
